Courts passed sentences on three women criminals who committed separate cases of trafficking in persons in Ayeyawady delta and Shan State last month, state media reported.

Police filed lawsuits under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law against Ma Naing, 52, and Ma Su Hlaing, 49, in Kyaunggon Town of Ayeyawady Region, for their plot to sell two women to Chinese men although the two victims were enticed with jobs for K200,000 per month at a textile shop in Yangon. They were given 20 year in prisons and labour.

Another woman, Ma Na Phue, from Mongpyan Town, Shan State, also persuaded two girls to marry men in neighbouring China in exchange for cash for their parents. The Tachileik District Court pronounced a sentence of 10-years in prison with labour.
