About 90,000 workers who have been terminated or suspended because of the impact of the coronavirus crisis will receive the first payment from EU’s Myan Ku emergency fund next week, the EU indicated in an announcement, state media reported.

Myan Ku will transfer the cash directly to the workers in May, June and July to support the terminated or suspended garment workers under the factories’ lay-off programmes.

On the International Workers’ Day, which fell on 1 May, the cash assistance from EU’s Myan Ku emergency fund was provided for the first time to workers from Myanmar garment sector who have either lost their jobs or had their jobs suspended because of the impact of coronavirus infection.
