CRPH flexes its muscles by forming sub-national level administrative bodies

Nay Pyi Taw, March 7

In a show of power, CRPH has formed sub-national level public administrative bodies.

Local committees representing sub-national Hluttaws are being formed in a range of areas as part of ongoing measures to protect against the Myanmar military junta’s proposed administrative offices.

The Committee Representing Yangon Hluttaw on 6 March issued an announcement of the formation of an interim Public Administrative Organization (PAO) in all Yangon region townships (except Cocogyin Township,  which is a military base).

The same day, the Committee Representing Magway Hluttaw announced the formation of PAOs in its 25 townships.

On 16 February, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) organized support team for civil service personnel who have taken strike actions in the civil disobedience movement. The CRPH has partnered with a range of civil society organizations in support of this work.

The Military junta’s administration council alleged on  5 March that the CRPH and all supporting organizations are committing high treason against the State.

The Council also warned that formation of alternative public administration committees will be in breach of Section 122 of Penal Code which results in a penalty of death or 20 years imprisonment.
