Dadeye court sentences 3 members of Peacock Generation Thangyat team to one year imprisonment

Dadeye Township court sentenced Peacock Generation Thangyat team to one year imprisonment yesterday under section 505(a) of Penal Code (public mischief) for their performance of controversial Thangyat (rhythmic verses recital) which allegedly disparaged the Tatmadaw (Defence Services).

Similarly Ma-ubin Township court sentenced them on June 11 to one year imprisonment.

Because of these series of prison sentences given by various courts, Peacock Generation Thangyat team member Pai Phyo Min aka Deyay will serve six years’ imprisonment with hard labour, another member Zeyar Lwin will serve five and half years’ imprisonment, Pai Ye Thu will serve five and half years’ imprisonment, Zaw Lin Htut shall serve two years’ imprisonment for three cases, Kay Khaing Tun shall serve two and half years’ imprisonment for three cases and Suu Yadana Myint shall serve two years’ imprisonment for three cases.

These student activists-turned Peacock Generation Thangyat team were charged and prosecuted simultaneously at Mayangon Township court and Botataung Township court in Yangon Region, Dadeye Township court, Pyapon Township court, Ma-ubin Township court and Pathein Township court in Ayeyarwady Region.

Lt. Col. Myo Min Oo prosecuted the Thangyat team at Mayangon Township court under section 505(a) of Penal Code (public mischief) and in one case against them, up to seven members of this Peacock Thangyat team were prosecuted under section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law.
