‘House of Orchid’ owner Htay Aung said that he would contest the 2020 general elections in Kawhmu constituency where State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi was elected in 2015 elections.

He said at a press conference that he would contest the 2020 general elections as an independent candidate.

“Sister Aung San Suu Kyi is a well-known leader in the world, so by contesting against her in the same constituency will also make me famous. This contest will not be competition only. She is the image of our country. I wish the world to see a Muslim contest the same constituency as her in this election so that the world will see there is no religious discrimination. The people will see society is in harmony with all communities. I want to show the world such an image,” he said.

The State Counsellor has not yet said if she would contest the 2020 general elections.
