Officials with the Yangon Region Public Health Department have reported an increase in measles cases since the beginning of the year, state media reported.

By 4 February, 248 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles were reported. This compares to 646 cases confirmed in the whole of 2018, which accounted for half the cases in the country.

The increase in cases has affected seven townships in Yangon–South Dagon township, Shwepyithar township, Insein township, Dagon Seikkan township, Hlaingthayar township, Mingaladon township and East Dagon township.
