Indelible inks procured through Japan’s grant project ‘Election Assistance Program’ worth 181 million yen (approximately US$1.7 million) has been delivered to Yangon International Airport.

The indelible ink arrived at the airport and was handed over by the Mr. Maruyama Ichiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, to Kyi Myint, Chairperson of Yangon Region Election Sub-Commission.

The upcoming General Election on 8 November is a milestone in Myanmar’s progress in the democratization process. The Government of Japan will fully support Myanmar's democratic nation-building. The Government of Japan will dispatch an Election Observation Mission headed by Mr. Sasakawa Yohei, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, and also support the conduct of free and fair election through this grant project.

This project, implemented in collaboration with the UNDP, will contribute to the conduct of fair and transparent election by deploying indelible ink at all polling stations across Myanmar, in the aim to prevent double-voting by all voters. This is the second time that Japan has provided Electoral Support in Myanmar, following the last General Election in 2015.
