The People Defence Force in Bago conducted a bomb attack in Bago Township on 7 July, killing one soldier.

The PDF confirmed they planted a bomb connected to a vinyl poster of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and the explosion occurred while the soldiers were removing her picture attached to the wall of a moat in the city to mark an historic day of the country.

On 7 July 1962 the military junta of General Ne Win violently suppressed demonstration involving 2,000 students, causing dozens of deaths in Yangon University. The following day, the student union building was blown up by security forces.
