After the recent withdrawal of a defamation lawsuit, Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson, the president of Kachin Baptist Church (KBC), and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing held a discussion on September 12, according to a report on the KBC Facebook page.

Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson, Rev. Hpauyawng Tu Mai, General Secretary of KBC, Hpauyam Hka Li, KBC HDD Director, Lamai Gum Ja (PCG), and Hkapra Hkun Awng (PCG) held a meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on September 12 at the Royal Palace Hotel in Mandalay for two hours.

During the discussion they discussed a range of issues including the withdrawal of the lawsuit against Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson, how they can work towards peace, an end to oppression and discrimination, and a return of the internally displaced people.

During the discussion the importance of keeping the union together was stressed.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that he is not a one-sided hard-headed person, and expressed the wish that they could meet again.

Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson told the senior general that he and many people at home and abroad welcomed the withdrawal of the lawsuit against him, noting it had improved the image of the Myanmar military.

The suit was originally brought following Reverend Samson’s meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House during with the Reverend complained about repression in Kachin State.
