Mandalay Region Fire Department Deputy Region Officer Htet Aung said that they have grouped 116 regular firefighters at the region-level to get ready for rescue and relief operations in case of natural disasters in the Mandalay Region.

“Met Department issued warning for apparent high water level in Ayeyarwady River because of the current weather forecast. So we grouped our firefighters in districts and townships to get ready for this situation. We formed a 35-member disaster team in each township also,” Deputy Region Officer Htet Aung said.

It is learned that Mandalay Region Fire Department is currently visiting villages which are flooded with water overflowing from the Ayeyarwady River and they are promoting awareness campaigns and giving warning to the villages besides evacuating some households where they are needed.

“We will expand our search and rescue teams as and when necessary. Currently we are giving assistance in Thabeikkyin, Amarapura, Tada-U, Tagaung and Singu townships for disaster relief and rescue work by sending a platoon of firefighters. We also sent a directive to all 28 township fire departments to get ready for disaster relief and rescue works,” he added.
