Because of banning and restricting on social gatherings and events imposed by government due to COVID-19 outbreak, people extended their best wishes to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on her 75th birthday which fell yesterday in a variety of ways.

Billboards and hoardings made of portrait of Aung San Suu Kyi taken by 7,500 people were erected at busy junctions such as Hledan, Tamwe and Latha Street today in commemoration of her 75th birthday.

Moreover, many people hung the vinyl banners with the birthday wish ‘May Aung San Suu Kyi be healthy’ from their flats in Anawrahta and Maha Bandoola streets in Pabedan Township.

Similarly administrative Committee member Tin Hlaing from Yangon Bus Service (YBS) Route No. 75 plying in Yangon city said that they ran their 23 buses today free of charge in honour and commemoration of her birthday.

“We run our bus free of charge only today for one day in commemoration of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday,” he said.

The Union government has banned social gatherings and events since March this year to contain and control the transmission of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

So those who wish to express their appreciation of the State Counsellor had to use different ways due to the government’s ban on such events and gatherings.
