Myanmar junta column hit with landmines near Sagaing’s Ayadaw Town

A Myanmar junta infantry column was attacked with landmines by resistance forces near Naung Gyi Ai village north of Ayadaw Town, Sagaing Region on the morning of 18 May.

'When we attacked with mines, about six soldiers fell down and four guns were also dropped. There were two junta troop majors in the front and back of the column. One of them died due to the attack,” said an official from Lightning Storm Force resistance group.

After the bomb attack, a military truck and a tank reportedly arrived and fired artillery at three nearby villages.

A spokesperson for the Lightning Storm Force said that in the past when junta troops were attacked with landmines, they fired back. But in this incident, the soldiers carried away the injured soldiers and did not fire back.

The tank fire hit the roofs of the village houses but no villagers were harmed in the attack.

Earlier, bombs dropped by resistance-operated drone killed five junta soldiers and wounded seven north of Ayadaw town.
