Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said Myanmar had signed a contract to buy the COVID-19 vaccine from India and would start vaccinating health workers in February this year.

She addressed the issue in a speech on international New Year’s Day.

A contract has been signed to get the first batch of vaccines from India. The vaccine is expected to be available in Myanmar once it is approved by the relevant authorities in India. Under this programme, the first vaccination campaigns will be given to health workers, a priority group in February,” said State
Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi said she hoped the vaccination campaigns would be implemented step by step across the country in 2021.

A Myanmar team recently visited India to discuss the buying of the COVID-19 vaccine for 15 million people.
