Myanmar player Kyi Myint has won gold medal at Taiwan Open 2019 senior-level table tennis tournament which was held in Taiwan from March 9 to 10.

Over 80 players from host Taiwan, Hong Kong, Guatemala, Japan and Australia took part in the tournament.

Kyi Myint won the gold medal in final by beating the player from Guatemala.

Kyi Myint said, “It was too cold there (Taiwan). We had to practice well before playing. There were many contestants. In our country, Myanmar, we had just 4-5 tables in the tournament but in Taiwan there were 20-30 tables for simultaneous playing. We had not many days for the tournament. Most of the matches were played on the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. I could not walk well after playing the final match. Luck was in my favour in playing the last three matches, quarterfinal, semifinal and final. I won all these matches by narrow margins.”

After arriving back in Myanmar on March 13, Myanmar Federation of Table Tennis held a welcoming ceremony in his honour.
