Myanmar’s Ministry of Health and Sports has confirmed that the total of COVID-19 cases now stands at 261.

As of 12 June, the ministry confirmed a total of six deaths, 165 recovered and 150 discharged.

Myanmar has a range of restrictions in effect to try to prevent the spread of the virus that according to the latest figures has infected more than 7.7 million people around the world.

Measures are in place to screen Myanmar nationals returning from abroad and place them in quarantine centres.

According to a report by DVB, police and volunteers are checking for COVID 19 at immigration points in Rekhawdar border town at Myanmar-India border to prevent illegal entering . As the border is separated by the river, illegal entering can be done easily and it is risky for the spread of COVID 19, said a local resident.

The country is gradually relaxing lockdown restrictions but trying to encourage people to maintain social distancing and encouraging general hygiene measures.
