Nearly 7,000 candidates to compete in general election

Nearly 7,000 candidates will compete in Myanmar's upcoming general election scheduled for Nov. 8, an official from the Union Election Commission told a press briefing, Xinhua reported.

Of them, 1,934 candidates will compete for the House of Representatives (Lower House), 976 candidates for the House of Nationalities (Upper House), 3,847 candidates for state or region parliaments and 212 candidates for ethnic minority in state or region parliaments, he added.

About 37 million people are eligible to vote in the upcoming general election.
