Myanmar's Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of the COVID-19 virus will provide financial assistance to needy citizens as part of the COVID-19 economic relief plan, a government official said.

Zaw Htay, spokesperson of the President's Office, said negotiations are being carried out between the National-level committee led by State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and respective ministries to directly disburse cash to the people in need through online payment system, according to Xinhua.

This effort, set to begin in two or three weeks, follows an earlier provision of basic essentials including rice and cooking oil handed out last month.

As of Saturday, Myanmar had reported 182 cases of COVID-19 with six deaths.
