NLD party spokesman Dr. Myo Nyunt confirmed that they had received a complaint letter lodged against Bago Region Chief Minister Win Thein for his remarks made about school teachers.

“We received this complaint letter and now it has been registered in our dispatch register. And we will continue our work on this letter in accordance with our procedures. We always give priority to matters of interest among the people but we have other important and urgent work too. We will consider taking action on this letter as soon as possible. We will take a decision only after an investigation into it. It will go viral if we say it in advance,” he said.

At the meeting with local people held at Damange village, Bago Region on October 5, CM Win Thein reportedly said that local villagers should court and propose to teachers posted in their villages and then these teachers would stay in these villages forever. As a result, the controversial suggestion was widely criticized among the people.

The Bago CM made this proposal in reply to a presentation made by local people on providing accommodation to the teachers posted in their villages.

Basic Education and Higher Education Joint Working Committee member Phyo Wai Aung said, “We sent a complaint letter against the Bago Region CM and we demanded action. The words he said are insulting and contemptuous to the personal security of these teachers and also it will encourage sexual harassment against these teachers. And also it will hurt the personal security of teachers and instigate local people to insult and harass the dignity and moral ethics of these teachers and also it will encourage committing crime against the teachers.”

Regarding this matter, Bago Region CM made an apology through the domestic media.
