A new nation based on the people's power and a new military protecting all of the people will soon emerge, said Duwa Lashi La, the Acting President of National Unity Government.

The remark was made during a public speech to mark the first anniversary of the Spring Revolution on February 1.

He said, "The Myanmar people will shape the future of the new Myanmar that they aspire to. In the near future, the people’s unity will lead to a genuine, new federal democratic union emerging with dignity into the world."

He added that the current revolution will definitely eliminate the military dictatorship that manipulates all sectors of the country, and instead a new nation could establish a peaceful, harmonious and equal society capable of self-determination.

"What kind of future do we expect after having eliminated the military dictatorship? We expect to create a nation with full democracy and human rights for all its people. A federal union with full federal rights such as equality and self-determination for all ethnic groups and a non-discriminatory, peaceful and harmonious society. I want to say that this is a noble and pure revolution,” he continued.

To this end, he called on the revolutionary forces to continuously fight against the crumbling military regime and urged the people to help clinch a revolutionary victory by carrying out their respective roles.

Currently, Duwa Lashi La said, the NUG is able to form a People’s Defence Force (PDF) many of whom are fighting alongside ethnic armed groups. The formation of the PDF within the first year of the revolution had been an important achievement of the Burmese people.

He is optimistic and believes success is not far off, because a central command has been established, there is coordination of military strategies and the PDF is now working with ethnic armed organisations.

The current military, which is dominated by the dictators, will be consigned to history and will be replaced by a new military that truly protects the people and believes in democracy and federalism, he said.

He also urged the military regime’s soldiers and policemen to defect and stand with people as soon as possible so that they could help to set up a new military in the future.,

The Spring Revolution began on February 1, 2021, when the military seized power from the NLD civilian government on the pretext that the 2020 election had been rigged.

After the coup, people across the country peacefully protested against the military dictatorship.

More than 1,500 people have been killed and over 10,000 have been detained by the military.

Despite this and other cruel military oppressions, anti-coup activities have not decreased and revolutionary forces are struggling to establish a self-determining federal and democratic union.
