Over 1,500 Myanmar migrant workers in China made contacts to the embassy in Beijing, China for going back home.

The Myanmar migrant workers are reportedly working in China illegally and most of them are in factories in Shandong Province.

An official at the embassy said, “As per the labour laws of the territory concerned, we are not in position to give them diplomatic protection since they are working in China illegally but they can stay in their factories by registering at the police stations concerned. They can stay safely in these places. They are not in detention. They are under police protection at present.”

It is estimated that the number of illegal migrant Myanmar workers in China is nearly 10,000.

A Myanmar embassy official said that legal Myanmar migrant workers in China who were holding Myanmar passports could go back home now.
