Over 600 curfew violators arrested in Yangon within one day

The official Facebook page of Yangon Region Myanmar Police Force reported that the police took action against 647 persons on September 2 for violation of a curfew imposed in Yangon Region.

Pazundaung Township, township administrator Chan Myae Aung said, “We arrested six persons yesterday. We will prosecute them at court under section 188 of Penal Code (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant).”

The Facebook page reported that 618 male, 29 female persons were registered under section 188 of Penal Code for violation of curfew. 111 vehicles and eight motorcycles were also seized along with them.

The violators face imprisonment varying from one month to six months or may be fined from 200 to 10,000 kyats or both if found guilty under section 188.

A curfew order from midnight to 4 a.m. has been imposed in Yangon since April this year amid the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
