US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met here with his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen to discuss bilateral cooperation and refugees' issue on Monday, the US State Department said.

According to a statement issued by State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, the two top diplomats discussed the two nations' "increasing economic, security, and counterterrorism cooperation."

"The Secretary lauded Bangladesh's generosity in continuing to host one million Rohingya refugees" from Myanmar, and emphasized "how we will work with the international community to increase support for the refugees and host communities," the statement said.

UN figures showed that more than 745,000 Rohingya refugees have fled from Myanmar's Rakhine State to Bangladesh since August 2017, escaping violence in Myanmar and joining roughly 200,000 others already displaced in southeastern Bangladesh by previous cycles of violence.
