Research on the role of Regional governments will be conducted for decentralization

Research will be conducted on the role of Region and State governments on decentralization.

A Preliminary forum for studying the role of State/Region governments in the decentralization process was held at Sagaing Region government office in Monywa on November 8.

Dr Thein Than Win from Pyinnyar Institute said, “Regional level and Union level institutions and officials of them need to know the decentralization process thoroughly to implement it correctly and quickly. And also we need to know what are the requirements in the process and where are they in the implementation of it.”

Five researchers will be involved in ascertaining requirements in the decentralization process and their findings and recommendations will be given to the local governments concerned.

Cabinet members, legislators and MPs, government servants and CSOs will be included in the research as will suggestions from media also they will compile a research paper based on the facts and figures they obtained from their research.

The first phase of this research project will be done from October to December 2018 and the second phase will be reportedly done for one year from January to December 2019.

The research work concerning decentralization of governance will be done in Sagaing Region and Bago Region.
