Summary on 20 May

  • There was a meeting between RCSS Chair Yawd Serk and the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing on Friday. There, Yawd Serk said that they both would implement peace process resolutely. Aside from self-interest, it seems impossible to expect of peace from the junta army setting fire to villages.
  • After a harsh response to Arakan Army-AA, the military junta sent a large number of soldiers from Regiment (22) of Kayin State to Rakhine. Consequently, members of non-attack forces and civilian staff in Pha-Ang had to take responsibility for security of the town. Judging from that, the junta army has been on the verge of collapse with fewer human resources.
  • In Sagaing and Magwe regions, the junta armed forces have been setting fire to villages, killing people and committing rapes. According to Captain Dragon, local people and PDFs have already made a determined decision to drive away those junta soldiers from the land of Myanmar for good.
