The State Counsellor has urged students to be smarter than students from other countries not only in academia but also in morality and character.

She was speaking at a meeting with teachers at district-level Grade 6 new curriculum forum held at State High School No. 2, Pyinmana on May 21.

“We still have a long way to go to be fully developed. Of prime importance is the education system. If our education system is right we can keep up with other countries. We can catch up with them in short time. I wish to see our students smarter than students from other countries in different way. I mean smart is not only academic but also in morality and character. And also, I wish to see them working together friendly and amicably,” she said.

Basic Education Department, Director General Ko Lay Win said that the State Counsellor came to SHS 2 at the invitation of Ministry of Education to encourage trainee teachers from middle school level to take part in learning new curriculums for Grade 3 and Grade 6 as part of the new KG-12 education system which is being implemented in the entire country.

The Ministry of Education started a new KG+12 education system in 2016 and it will be completed by the 2022-23 academic year.
