Trump team challenges US election results in move Biden denounces as 'irresponsible'

US President Donald Trump’s legal team challenged the US election results this week in a press conference that received little or no coverage by the media.

Trump had dispatched his lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his legal team on Thursday to give a news conference where they read affidavits claiming fraudulent voter activity in multiple states.

Giuliani, a former mayor of New York, accused Democrats of being "crooks" trying "to steal an election from the American people."

Core allegations involved the use of election software and servers that is foreign owned and is housed in Canada, Spain and Germany. The main software company is Dominion.

This year’s national election took place under an executive order that was written to combat foreign interference in US elections. The Executive Order on Imposing Certain Sanctions in the Event of Foreign Interference in a United States Election was signed 12 September 2018.

As Giuliani and other Trump lawyers outlined claims that included charges of communist involvement including money from the Chinese Communist Party, the president - apparently watching on television - took to Twitter to applaud them for laying out "an open-and-shut case of voter fraud."

The hour and a half long press conference included testimony from Trump’s lawyer Sidney Powell and campaign legal advisor Jenna Ellis who attacked the outcome and pledged the campaign will "pursue all legal options."

The team claimed there had been massive fraud and said it threatened the integrity of the election and future elections. They pointed out how Trump had won by a landslide. Powell has claimed the evidence of fraud is coming in like a “fire hose”. She said several Dominion company employees have come forward to give evidence.

Meanwhile, presidential contender Joe Biden accused Trump of brazenly damaging democracy by what he termed his refusal to concede. The media has crowned Biden president-elect, even though there is room for contenders to challenge the outcome of elections.

Chris Krebs, the top US election security official who was fired by Trump after calling the election the most secure ever, wrote on Twitter that the news conference was "the most dangerous 1hr 45 minutes of television in American history" and "possibly the craziest."

Trump’s legal team is proceeding with the legal process to challenge the outcome of the election.
