24 political parties including the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), sent an open letter dated September 15 to the Union Election Commission to reconsider the polling date for 2020 general elections.

UEC issued an announcement setting polling date for general elections on November 8 but some political parties urged UEC to reconsider this date in the backdrop of resurging COVID-19 infections.

National League for Democracy (NLD) central information team secretary and poet Monywa Aung Shin said that they would continue their works in accordance with the UEC regarding the polling date.

USDP party chairman Than Htay said in a video file posted on his social media page that they would gladly cooperate with UEC if the commission postpones the scheduled polling date.
