Myanmar's University of Yangon has virtually celebrated its centenary by broadcasting pre-recorded programs on state-run channels on Tuesday evening, Xinhua reported.

Established on Dec. 1, 1920, the University of Yangon is the earliest university of the country and is running with 20 departments from Anthropology to Zoology covering subjects in arts and sciences, and Law.

As Yangon region accounts for 75 percent of the total COVID-19 infection cases across the country, and Kamayut township, where the university is located, is one of townships with most cases in Yangon, the university's centennial celebration could only be held virtually, the Ministry of Education said on Monday.
