The USDP has filed more than 1,000 complaints of irregularities in the 2020 election, said U Khin Yi, vice-chairman of the party.

He said there are over 1,000 complaints which cover the whole country, 126 complaints were submitted to police stations and 1,042 complaints were submitted to Union Election Commission (UEC) on the press conference that was held in the USDP head office of Yangon on November 26.

“In the electoral period, you cannot say that everyone has to be equal. Because there are a lot of things that ruling party which of course has the strong background makes benefit out of it. Especially we can see in public media that they are persuading the people with the subsidy given by the country for the purpose to win the election.”

Among these 1,000 complaints, officials from USDP said it includes performing advance votes outside of the constituency, casting votes with the name of dead people on November 8, casting votes twice by only one person, casting votes on behalf of someone else and underage people coming to cast votes.

In addition, USDP vice-chairman U Kyin Yi said on the press conference that the events such as casting votes without identity cards and casting votes twice by one individual are suspicious and required to be inspected and if the authorities decide it right, the result can be changed.

“In spite of the results were altered or not, we just want to inform about some events in this election that lack fairness and transparency. It depends on the decision maker that the result might changed or not. If the decision maker decides fairly, the result can be changed.”

The officials from USDP said the government has to take responsibility with the complaints and if not, they will proceed according to the law. They said they cannot say about the situation of proceeding with the law yet.

On November 24, 19 political parties including USDP have sent an open letter to the president that claims that the Union Election Commission’s actions did not follow the rules and regulations of the constitution and were absent the duties of the law.

In the open letter, it is stated that the 2020 general election could not be expressed as free, reasonable and fair since there were undesirable and unlawful things that happened.
