Wa National Party to contest 30 seats in forthcoming general elections

Wa National Party Chairman Sai Pau Nap said that their party consisting of three ethnic Wa parties would contest 30 seats in the forthcoming 2020 general elections.

Wa National Party (WNP) was formed by merging three ethnic Wa parties namely ‘Wa National United Party’, ‘Wa Democratic Party’ and ‘Wa Liberal Democratic Development Party’ in early 2020. This WNP will contest two townships in Wa Self-Administered Division and eight townships in Shan State total 10 townships for seats in House of Nationalities, House of Representatives and regional legislative assemblies.

Before merging, Wa Democratic Party won Hopang and Metman Township House of Representative seats in 2010 general elections. In 2015 general elections too, this party won in House of Representatives seat from Hopang constituency and two seats in regional legislative assembly totalling three seats.
