Yoma Strategic raises awareness on malaria elimination and COVID-19 response

The coronavirus scare consumes our daily lives in Myanmar but what is often forgotten is there are also other diseases out there that get far less media attention.

Yoma Strategic Holdings is leading the charge for the private sector to raise awareness for malaria elimination in Myanmar and COVID19 response. The target for the mosquito carried disease is Zero Malaria, as the campaign says.

According to Melvyn Pun, CEO of Yoma Strategic the COVID pandemic has had a major impact on people’s daily lives in Myanmar.

“Business, schooling and social interaction has been largely curtailed. At Yoma, our business is communities and we take our responsibility very seriously to ensure the health and well-being of our communities. And much like COVID, malaria in the past has been a daily threat to our daily life and stopping malaria has been our priority for a while,” he said.

“We are lucky we have had much traction and we are close to eliminating malaria and that is done by working together between governments, public health workers and businesses. In fact business plays an important part in our daily lives in how we act and how we shop for our things,” Melvyn Pun said.

“At Yoma we advocate for all business owners to work together to fight this pandemic so that we can keep our communities safe and bring the virus under control and return to our normal daily lives,” he added.
