States within Myanmar have been tasked to decide on Special Economic Zones (SEZ)s , said Aung Tun Thet, while presiding over discussions on trade and Investment in the conference on '”India-Myanmar Relations: The Way Forward".
"We want the states to take into account local realities and clear SEZ projects," said Aung Tun Thet, former presidential advisor and now in the charge of the civilian initiative in Rakhine State.
He said the states would do everything possible to get investment for industries based on locally available natural resources.
"And they would also take local concerns into account when huge investments are targetted," Aung Tun Thet said.
He said apart from targeting big investments in SEZs, the chief ministers of the states would do well to consider smaller growth zones to promote industries that benefit the local economies.
