British Chamber of Commerce seeks to connect UK businesses to Myanmar

The British Chamber in Myanmar has launched a range of business services to assist UK companies with market entry in to Myanmar, according to a statement on 23 August. The Chamber will promote trade and investment opportunities to UK businesses and support these companies to access these opportunities and establish links in Myanmar.
There is growing interest in the Myanmar market in the UK, following landmark elections in Myanmar last year and signs that the new government will continue to encourage responsible inward foreign investment.
According to the statement, the British Chamber is uniquely positioned to offer companies practical market entry services and act as the ‘first point of call’ for British business looking to invest in Myanmar.
Key business services on offer to British companies include:
Partner identification and business matching
Market visits and trade missions
Bespoke events to showcase products or services
The British Chamber will continue to work with its network of Myanmar member companies and UMFCCI to identify areas for trade cooperation and companies for potential partnerships. Myanmar companies will benefit from introductions to British companies seeking local partners, clients, agents and distributors.
U Win Aung, Chairman, UMFCCI, said:
“The British Chamber plays a significant role in attracting trade and investment in Myanmar. There are already a number of successful partnerships between UK and Myanmar businesses. I am encouraged to hear that the British Chamber is now offering British companies market entry services. I believe that this will attract more British businesses to Myanmar and further enhance the existing bilateral economic cooperation between our two countries for mutual benefit.
There is huge enthusiasm to share our local market understanding with committed overseas companies, which, in turn, will be able to share their international experience and investment with our private sector businesses. We can learn a great deal from each other.”
Carl Emerson, Technical and Project Support Manager of British Mining Heavy Machinery Manufacturer, MMD said:
“We are eager to expand in to the Myanmar market and we have begun to research the market opportunity and potential agents, distributors and customers for our products. The Chamber provided us with an excellent, targeted market visit program which opened up opportunities for us which we would not have been able to access otherwise. The service was very good value for money and has informed our company's market entry strategy. British companies are fortunate to have these business services available to them in Myanmar.”
