2nd Commercial Farm Summit Conference in Rangoon

2nd-Commercial-Farm-Summit-octThe 2nd Commercial Farm Asia Summit will be held in Rangoon on October 11-12 with Burmese officials and experts offering views on the industry's outlook. The conference will be held in the Park Royal Hotel.

The Laos agriculture and forestry sector is seeking to attract more domestic and foreign investors for rice, commercial crops and livestock promotion projects to help local farmers shift from subsistence-based to commercial production. Investors are increasingly looking to Laos to explore opportunities in sugar, cassava rubber and forestry.

Indonesia has also open up the agriculture sector to foreign investment, and has implemented reforms to improve the ease of doing business in the country.

Key officials from Laos and Indonesia will provide a comprehensive update on the opportunities for agriculture investment in their respective countries.

Banun Harpini, the director general of Processing and Marketing for Agricultural Products Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Indonesia, will speak on key crops and regions for investment, policies and incentives, provide updates on land acquisition and utilization policies.

Dr. Sengpaseuth, the deputy director of Extension & Database of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Laos, will speak on prospects in Laos.

Alessio Polastri will present a paper on “Legal issue for farmland investiments in Cambodia/Myanmar and resolving disputes."  He will discuss:

  • Overlapping claims
  • Acquiring land banks or existing farmland
  • Management of land settlement schemes
  • Structuring share holder ownership
  • When things don't work out - exiting the investment & pitfalls to avoid
