A consortium comprising one of the world’s biggest mobile phone network providers and one of Myanmar’s biggest companies has signed an agreement with Ooredoo Myanmar to build telecommunications towers throughout the country.
Shein Thu Aung, a member of the Yadanabon Teleport Company’s board of directors, told Mizzima on 5 November that the company has opened discussions with international telecom organizations. It aims to establish cooperative and mutually beneficial relationships with several overseas firms.
Privately owned Kanbawza Bank will issue 10,000 SEA Games-themed debit cards to Myanmar and foreign nationals ahead of the upcoming sporting event, said the bank’s Vice Administrative Director Zaw Lin Htut.
The Myanmar Telecommunications Enterprise is working to make wireless Internet available to the whole country.
The Communication and Information Technology Ministry announced that new Internet Service Providers (ISP) licenses would be issued to operators after the Information Technology Law is enacted, at the annual General Body Meeting of the Myanmar Computer Professionals Association (MCPA) held in Yangon on September 20.
