Aparjithan, Madras, India The Korea Democracy Foundation (KDF) was founded by an Act of the Korean National Assembly (Parliament) called the Korea Democracy Foundation Act in 2001. The Act was passed by the National Assembly recognizing the spirit of the democracy movement in bringing democracy to Korea and to extend, develop the vision and spirit of the Korea Democratic Movement.

Democracy and Social Movements Institute (DaSMI), Sungkonghoe University was established in 2003 at Sungkonghoe University and conducts researches on the issues of democracy and social movements. Publications of the Institute include Changes in South Korean Capitalism, The Dynamics of Social Movements in Contemporary Korea, Alternative Model in the Dual Process of Democratization and Globalization, and Breaking the Barrier Currently it is developing an indicator of ‘quality of democracy’ to assess democratic developments in Asia. The Institute runs three archives. Two are in Korean and the third, the Asia archives (http://www.asiaarchives.org) services an English website which holds diverse papers and documents on democracy, social movements and NGOs in Korea.
