It is indeed difficult to explain the suffering of the people of Burma after Cyclone Nargis lashed the country. When I log on to the Mizzima website and read the articles and see the photographs, it really touches my heart. So many people are dying........

Ko Ohn Kyaw, an Organizing Committee member of the National League for Democracy of Rangoon Division, Dawbon Township was bludgeoned to death in the Insein prison after the prison precincts caught fire when cyclone Nargis lashed Burma. Ko Ohn Kyaw was accused of organizing a jailbreak and was beaten to death during rigorous interrogation.

Only a little over six months ago there seemed a real possibility that hope for a peaceful change in Burma was on the horizon. That ended in ugly scenes with attacks on Buddhist institutions and revered monks by the military junta of Burma.

Nam Davies, Mizzima reporter, interviewed a Chin woman victim of the cyclone taking shelter at the 'Full Gospel' church in Insein, Rangoon. She lost her home in the tropical cyclone Nargis which devastated Burma with wind speeds of over 120 mph. Here is the excerpt of the interview.

Rangoon: I am in my apartment overlooking an area of about one square kilometer. Until Friday night it was covered with trees. Now all I see is a scene of utter devastation. Hundreds of trees are uprooted, houses smashed by falling trees and roofs gone with the wind.
