New Delhi (Mizzima) - A teenaged girl committed suicide by jumping off a four-storey building in Burma’s former capital Rangoon on Monday, police said.

The Lanmadaw Police Station in downtown Rangoon told Mizzima that a 16-year old girl, Zin Thu Htet, killed herself on Monday early morning by jumping from the top of the four-storey building, where she and her family lived.

“The girl died instantly. She jumped off the building at about 6 a.m. (local time),” said an official at the police station. The police are investigating the incident.

The official added that the girl apparently jumped from the rooftop after an argument with her parents. He, however, declined to mention what the argument between the girl and her parents was about.

The girl, according to neighbours and the police, had passed class 10 and was about to be enrolled in college for higher studies in the ensuing academic year.
