Kachin ethnic nationalities from Burma staged a protest against the military junta in New Delhi on 27 August 2008 for the alleged gang rape and murder of 15-year old Nhkum Hkawn Din by Burmese soldiers in her village in Nam Sai in northern Burma. Photo: Mizzima. The protesters said 500,000 Kyats as compensation by the army was not enough and unjust.

Rumours are doing the rounds that the Burmese junta's investigation into the banking business of the close friend of regime's No.2 man Deputy Senior Gen. Maung Aye's caused panic withdrawals from Kanbawza bank. However, there is no strong evidence yet on the tension between the junta supremo Senior Gen. Than Shwe and the No.2 strongman.<br />
