Russia is one of Burma’s major arms suppliers and maintains close relations with the regime. Though stating its hope for peaceful reconciliation in the country, it is firm on the point of non-interference.

Statements
21 June 2009: The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected using political and economic pressure to influence the Burmese government, saying that Russia opposed attempts to internationalize the internal situation in Burma as it did not endanger peace and security in the region or in the world at large.

6 Dec 2009:
Russia’s ambassador to Burma told Burmese Foreign Minister Nyan Win that Moscow will be in a better position to support the Naypyidaw regime if it cooperates with UN special envoy Ibraham Gambari
