New Rakhine State Parliament convenes on 8 February

The new Rakhine State Parliament will convene on 8 February 2016, according to the Rakhine State Parliament Office in Sittwe.
The last session of the previous Parliament was concluded on 31 January.
U ThanNaing, who won the State Parliament's Rathidaung Township Constituency said: “I have received an invitation letter from the Rakhine State Parliament Office to attend the first meeting beginning on 8 February.”
There are a total of 47 seats in the Arakan State Parliament.
Of those the Arakan National Party (ANP) won 22 seats, the National League for Democracy (NLD) won nine, the Union Solidarity and Development party (USDP) won three seats and one seat was won by an independent candidate. The military are allocated the remaining 12 seats for which there is no ballot.
