9th Ethnic Armed Organizations’ Summit ends

The Summit of the Ethnic Armed Organizations’ (EAOs) top leaders was held successfully in Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 21-24 and was attended by fifteen of the seventeen EAOs’ representatives according to a press release by the Senior Delegation office on 24 August.
In the Summit meeting, the EAOs Senior Delegation (SD) reported the results of the 9th Meeting between the SD and the Union Peace-making Work Committee (UPWC), and the results were affirmed.
The EAOs’ representatives presented their respective organizations’ views and discussed in depth matters relating to inclusivity of all EAOs to be signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and agreed that they will strive for the NCA to be all-inclusive.
The meeting reapproved the assignment of top leaders from the Karen National Union (KNU), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), New Mon State Party (NMSP), Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), and the SD leaders - together with eight representatives - to meet for negotiations with the President and the Commander-in-Chief in Naypyidaw. Mandates and points to be discussed were also agreed. Communication will be made to set up a date for the EAOs representatives and the Government representatives at the earliest possible time.
This Summit meeting enabled the strengthening of unity among the EAOs as well as setting up future plans unanimously the statement concluded.
