The All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) commemorated students who died in the 1962 Rangoon University massacre today, the 7 July, in Yangon.
Student leaders laid wreaths in memory of what is believed to be at least one hundred student protestors who were shot dead by the No. 4 Burmese Rifles Battalion on 7 July 1962 at what was then Rangoon University.
The students were protesting against what they considered unreasonable rules imposed by the Revolutionary Council. A day after the massacre, on the 8 July 1962,the student union building was demolished by dynamite.
