A summit between leaders of armed ethnic groups to discuss whether they should sign the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement is being held from 28 – 30 September in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
According to asummit statement,leaders would discuss processes related to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, military affairs, and political problems occurring in ethnic areas. It also said that the organisations would collect the opinions of each of the armed ethnic groups in seeking a nationwide ceasefire and decisions would be made that can bring about genuine peace.
More than 100 representatives from 18 armed ethnic groups attended the first day.
