A man from the Netherlands, Mr Klaas Haytema, aged 30, was charged under section 4 (2) and 13 (1) of the Myanmar Immigration Act, at the Maha Aungmyay Court in Mandalay yesterday.
Charges were filed against him following his arrest for unplugging cables connected to an amplifier at Thusarita Dhammayon, a religious hall in Yadanabummi East Ward of Maha Aungmyay Township in Mandalay, where recitations of religious verses were being blared on the night of 23 September.
The Immigration officer of the township said that the charge has been filed against the man for violating tourist visa rules, adding that foreigners who visit Myanmar have to agree to follow the host country’s existing laws, religious traditions and customs during their visa application process.
