The trial of the CEO and the chief editor of the Eleven Media Group was postponed yesterday after the prison doctor applied for an exemption from appearing at the court as witness, state media reported on 16 December.
The CEO, Dr Than Tun Aung, and the chief editor have been sued by the Yangon Region Government under Section 66 (D) of the Communication Law.
U Kyi Myint, the lawyer representing Dr Than Tun Aung, applied for bail on health grounds after the accused had suffered from a fall, but the court rejected the application on 9th December. When the lawyer applied for bail for his client again, the court summoned the prison medical officer, but the doctor applied for an exemption from appearing at the court as a witness as there are only six doctors working for healthcare services, sanitation and food inspection at the prison, one of the biggest prisons in Myanmar.
The trial was adjourned to 22 December.
