First day of NCA meeting sees agreement on 4 points

The first day of negotiations between the EAOs’ Senior Delegation (SD) and the Union Peace- making Work Committee (UPWC) to continue conclusive negotiations for the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was held successfully at the Myanmar Peace Centre (MPC) on July 22, 2015 according to a media release by the Ethnic Armed Organisation’s Senior Delegation on 22 July.
The 14-member SD is led by P’doh Naw Zipporah Sein, Deputy Leader 1 Dr. La Ja, and Deputy Leader 2 Pu Zing Cung. Union Minister U Aung Min led the UPWC and is joined by members of the Myanmar armed forces (Lt. Gen. Myint Soe, Lt. Gen. Thet Naing Win, Lt. Gen. Khin Zaw Oo, Lt. Gen. Ye Aung, and Col. Kyaw Soe Win), and members of Parliament led by U Thein Zaw, and Deputy Attorney General U Tun TunOo.
At today’s negotiation, the 12 provisions in the NCA text were principally discussed. Of the 12 NCA draft provisions, initial agreement was reached on 4 points the media release said.
The negotiation of the remaining provisions in the NCA text and other principle matters will continue on the morning of July 23, 2015.
