The Japanese government says it will provide emergency relief goods including blankets and food to victims of the recent flooding in Myanmar.
The supplies will be provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar following serious damage from the floods in the country, according to a press release on August 26.
Myanmar has been suffering from the floods caused by heavy rain since the beginning of July, and according to the Myanmar Government, as of August 21, at least 9 people died, approximately 480,000 people were affected and many people evacuated from their homes.
The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Myanmar in response to the request from the Myanmar Government, from the humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and Myanmar over many years.
