The 88 Generation Peace and Open Society held the 27th anniversary of "8888" or the student uprising in 1988 at Kyikekasan Dhamapiya Yeik Thar, Thingangyun Township, Yangon on Satuday.
Veterans of this student movement who attended included Ko Ko Gyi and Min Ko Naing. 
Visitors who attended listened to speeches and looked at photos and artifacts of the student movement back in the late 1980s.
The 8888 uprising was started by students in Yangon on 8 August 1988. Student protests spread throughout the country.Hundreds of thousands of ochre-robed monks, children, youngsters, university students, housewives, doctors and people from all walks of life demonstrated against the regime. The uprising eventually led to a crackdown by the regime.
