ANP stages protest at legislative assembly after not getting Chief Minister Post

The Arakan National Party (ANP) boycotted the Rakhine State Second Legislative Assembly today after the National League for Democracy (NLD) nominated its own member, Nyi Pu, for the Chief Minister Post in the Rakhine State government.
Though the session was supposed to begin at 9:30 a.m. both speaker and deputy speaker San Kyaw Hla and Pho Min both from the ANP failed to attend while the other ANP members that did wore black ribbons in protest at the nomination of Nyi Pu as Chief Minister.
Eventually, all legislative members from ANP walked out at 10:45 a.m. and only those from the NLD, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and military appointees were left.
ANP party spokesman Khai Pyi Soe told Mizzima yesterday that they would adhere to the stand mentioned in their statement on 19 January which said the ANP would stay in assembly as opposition and would not accept ministerial posts in the State government unless the chief minister appointee is from the ANP.
